FAIRFIELD-A Fairfield man has been charged with child endangerment after allegedly leaving his 6-month-old daughter in his pickup while he worked at a construction site downtown.
The Fairfield Police Department arrested Carl Sebastian Wagener, 44, of Fairfield, Tuesday.
The Jefferson County Law Center received an anonymous call at 1:52 p.m. reporting a baby was alone in a red Chevrolet pickup in the municipal parking lot near the Veterans of Foreign Wars building.
Officers were dispatched to the parking lot. Upon arrival, according to documents filed in Iowa District Court for Jefferson County, they found the girl in the vehicle, which was unlocked and had its windows rolled up.
Police located Wagener approximately 150 feet away from the vehicle and his daughter.
"He parked his vehicle and went to do his construction job and left her in the vehicle unattended for several hours," said Lt. Julie Harvey of the Fairfield Police Department.
According to court documents, Wagener told police he had brought the baby to work every day last week and left her in the truck.
He reportedly said he left the baby in the truck all morning and sometimes brought her inside in the afternoon.
