Jefferson County Attorney Tim Dille reported that the man involved in a standoff with police on Aug. 25 has died.
Dille said he received word Friday that Kelley Robinson, 45, had died earlier that day at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City. Dille said he had not received the autopsy report on the cause of death.
A Jefferson County Special Response Team found Robinson with what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound upon entering the residence at 2089 Libertyville Road in Fairfield early on the morning of Aug. 25. Robinson had barricaded himself in the residence after law enforcement responded to a 911 call indicating Robinson had pointed a handgun at the caller. The caller and two other people in the home were able to leave, but Robinson remained inside the house.
Jefferson County Sheriff Deputies, Fairfield Police Officers and the Iowa State Patrol responded to the scene and set up a safe perimeter around the home. During the course of the evening, officers determined that the doors to the home had been barricaded from the inside. For several hours, law enforcement attempted to make contact with the male subject inside the residence by making repeated phone calls and calling out over squad vehicle loud speakers.
At about 4:30 a.m., members of a Jefferson County Special Response Team forced their way into the residence, where they found him with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. Robinson was transported by ambulance to Jefferson County Health Center, and later to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.
