An 83-year-old man was taken to the hospital Thursday following a collision that forced fire fighters to remove the door to his vehicle to get him out.
Harold Farrier, of Fairfield, suffered minor injuries in the crash and was transported to Jefferson County Health Center by CARE Ambulance. The accident occurred just before 7 a.m. when Ferrier was headed northbound on South 32nd Street in Fairfield about to enter the intersection with West Burlington Avenue.
According to a news release from the Fairfield Police Department, Ferrier failed to yield right of way at the stop sign, and upon entering the intersection, was broadsided by a vehicle driven by Nicholas Wallace, 30, of Fairfield. Both vehicles received disabling damage and both spun off the road into the ditch.
Farrier was cited for failure to obey stop sign and yield right of way. Wallace was cited for driving with a suspended license and failure to provide proof of financial accident liability.
