MARSHALLTOWN (AP) ? A Marshalltown man has been sentenced to 87 years in prison in the October death of a man whose fingers, teeth and patches of tattooed skin were removed from his body.
The sentence Monday for Jeremy Gartin, 30, follows a conviction in December of voluntary manslaughter, abuse of a corpse and carrying a concealed weapon, the Marshalltown Times-Republican reported.
David Warnell, 57, of Garwin, was found wrapped in a sleeping bag in Gartin?s home basement. He was shot in the head with a .44 revolver, and parts of his body and other evidence were found in bags set for garbage collection.
Gartin, dressed in orange and with his feet and hands shackled, apologized to Warnell?s family during a brief statement Monday.
