Mary E. King, 88, of Mt. Pleasant, died Tuesday, July 7, 2015, at the Sunrise Terrace Care Center in Winfield.
Visitation will be held from noon to 8 p.m., on Thursday, July 9, 2015, at Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. that evening. Mary E. King, 88, of Mt. Pleasant, died Tuesday, July 7, 2015, at the Sunrise Terrace Care Center in Winfield.
Visitation will be held from noon to 8 p.m., on Thursday, July 9, 2015, at Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. that evening. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., on Friday, July 10, at Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Deborah Stowers officiating. Interment will be in the Forest Home Cemetery. King was born Aug. 12, 1926, in Cudworth, Saskatchewan, Canada, the daughter of Walter and Verna Harnagel Schmidt. When King was in high school, she moved to the Donnellson area. She was a 1945 graduate of Donnellson High School and graduated from Iowa Wesleyan College with a degree in medical technology. On Sept. 8, 1950, she married Robert King in Mt. Pleasant. He preceded her in death.
For many years, King worked for Dr. William Megorden in Mt. Pleasant. She was instrumental in starting a medical lab tech program at Southeastern Community College and served as an instructor for that program. Before retiring, she worked at the Mental Health Institute in Mt. Pleasant.
King was a member of First United Methodist Church. She was an avid gardener, enjoyed playing bridge and golfing. She enjoyed spending time with her family.
King is survived by a son, Thomas (Jody) King, of Manchester; two grandsons; and a brother, Lester Schmidt, of Cardston, Alberta, Canada.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Robert; three sisters, Irene Wiexel, Violet Hauber, and Thelma Overton; and one brother, John Schmidt.
