Arrests
An officer reported being at a vehicle stop, early Sunday morning at Highway 22 and Dogwood Avenue. An additional officer responded. Isaias Mendoza, 29, of Wellman, was arrested on charges of OWI second offense, and improper use of lanes. Earl's towed the vehicle, to be released upon payment of the tow bill.
Traffic accident
A vehicle was reported sitting in the median, Saturday night at Highway 218 and Mile Marker 68 in Ainsworth on the northbound side. The vehicle operator was Jason David Tinsley, of Florida. The operator already had a tow truck contacted to assist. An officer stood by with the vehicle and the operator until the tow truck arrived.
An officer reported being out with a vehicle that had just hit a deer, Saturday night at 155th Street and Ginkgo Avenue in Wellman. The vehicle operator was Morris Edward Bender, of Keota. Damages were less than $1,500. The vehicle was drivable.
A caller Saturday night at Wayland Road in Washington reported a car-vs.-deer accident. The vehicle was a 2018 Mazda operated by Terry Evans, of Washington. The vehicle had front-end damage and was drivable. The accident was documented.
A caller early Sunday morning at Highway 92 and Yucca Avenue in Ainsworth reported a red truck in the ditch. Two officers responded. There were no injuries to vehicle occupants. It was a car-vs.-horse accident. The horse was deceased. Moore's towed the vehicle.
Traffic stop serious
An officer reported being at a vehicle stop, early Sunday morning at 190th Street and Keokuk Washington Road in Keota. Price Anthony Hall, 19, was cited into court for possession of alcohol under the legal age.
Traffic other
A caller Saturday afternoon at Fourth Street in Ainsworth reported that juveniles were riding on an ATV up and down in the alleyway. Two officers responded. The juveniles were picked up by their grandfather. They were advised of the complaint and counseled on the situation.
Disabled vehicles
An officer reported being out with a disabled vehicle, Saturday morning at East Fifth Street and North Second Avenue in Washington.
An officer reported being out with a disabled vehicle, Saturday morning at West Fifth Street and North Avenue B in Washington. The occupants were given a ride to a nearby address in Washington.
An officer reported being out with a disabled vehicle, Saturday night at Highway 1 in Washington. The license plate was not readable. The officer advised that this vehicle had a flat tire, and the subjects inside the van were not willing to assist with tire change. The vehicle was added to the system. The subjects had a ride.
Animal complaint
A caller Saturday morning at South Third Avenue in Washington reported two large dogs on a neighbor's porch that did not belong there. They appeared to be a mastiff and a black Lab. The caller called back to advise that they were headed southbound on South Second Avenue. An officer responded and caught the dogs. The dogs were taken to the pound. The owner called in, looking for the dogs, and was advised that he could pick them up on Monday at the dog pound.
A caller Saturday morning at South Hickory Street in Riverside reported a dog bite. An officer left a message for the victim to call back. Documentation was made.
A caller Saturday afternoon at Highway 92 in Washington reported a dog that had been left in a vehicle in the Walmart parking lot. An officer responded, and the vehicle was gone.
Assault
A caller Saturday night at Lexington Boulevard in Washington reported an assault in the jail between two inmates. An officer responded. The subjects were Carl Tucker Gemberling, of Burlington, and Deng Michael Akuar, of Des Moines. Charges are pending for disorderly conduct on both subjects. A report will be filed.
A caller Sunday morning at Fir Avenue and Highway78 in Brighton reported an assault. Two officers responded. Documentation was made at that time. The subject would maybe call back with more information.
Burglary
A caller Saturday morning at Highway22 in Riverside reported that her 2008 Chevrolet Malibu was broken into in the parking lot. The casino had also been advised. An officer spoke with the subject and was going to follow up with the casino to see if any additional information was available on possible suspects. Items taken were valued at under $100. The incident was documented.
DP & Q
A caller Saturday night at North Pine Street in Crawfordsville reported that someone was shooting of fireworks at the golf course. An officer was advised and was unable to locate anyone.
Family offense non-violent
A caller Saturday evening at West Jefferson Street in Washington reported a verbal argument between a male and a female subject. Two officers responded. The female subject was going to leave for the evening. The female subject returned to the residence, and an officer stood by while she retrieved some medication.
Intimidation/harassment
A caller Saturday morning at North Seventh Avenue in Washington reported that a male came to her mother's residence and threatened her sister. He was not welcome at the residence. An officer responded. Both parties were advised to have no contact with each other. The male party was told he was no longer welcome back at the residence.
A subject Saturday morning at East Second Street in Washington advised an officer that he had an unknown party knock at his door at about 8:30 p.m. the previous night, and he then received a threatening text message at about 9:15 from a restricted number. The information was documented.
A caller Saturday night at 190th Street in Columbus Junction reported harassment via phone. An officer was advised. A report will be filed.
Runaways/missing person
A caller Saturday morning at South Wiley Boulevard in Washington reported locating her missing son's bicycle in the back of a pickup located at his place of employment. An officer responded. The bicycle did belong to the missing juvenile, and the juvenile was located. The missing juvenile was cleared from the system.
Suspicious activity
A caller Saturday night at East Washington Street in Washington reported that a male subject was going through the dumpsters at Arnold Motor Supply and BP One Trip. The subject was throwing trash out of the dumpsters. An officer responded to the area and was going to attempt to locate the subject and advise him not to dump trash around.
An officer reported being out with a vehicle that had had the flashers on for a few hours. The officer spoke to a neighbor, who saw a subject get out of the vehicle, but it was unknown who it was.
An officer reported being flagged down by a subject who advised that someone with a backpack was pulling on car handles, early Sunday morning at North Iowa Avenue and East Sixth Street in Washington. Two officers checked the area and were not able to locate the suspect.
Welfare check
A caller Saturday night at East Main Street in Washington requested a welfare check on his friend. An officer spoke with the caller. They made contact with the friend, and she was fine.
All other theft
A caller Saturday afternoon at Prospect Place in Washington reported that her wallet was stolen that day. It was a brown clutch wallet with $50 and driver's license inside. The driver's license was entered into the system. An officer responded and spoke to subjects. Documentation was made.
All other offenses
A caller Saturday morning at North Fifth Avenue in Washington reported checking into a possible welfare concern reported to them. The caller requested to speak with an officer regarding the situation. An officer responded and spoke with the caller. Documentation was made.
A caller Saturday afternoon at West Monroe Street and South Avenue B in Washington reported three youngsters rolling downhill in a wagon on West Monroe toward South Avenue B, and they nearly went into the street in front of a vehicle. An officer responded and advised the subjects of the complaint. The subjects put the wagon away.
A caller Saturday afternoon at East Main Street and South 13th Avenue in Washington reported a four-wheeler being driven around the neighborhood with three children on it. An officer responded and was unable to locate the vehicle or the subjects.
A caller Saturday afternoon at North Harrison Street in Brighton reported that while he was serving a paper, the male subject got upset with the caller and ripped the door handle off his car. The caller was in a 2010 tan Nissan Murano at Jefferson and Washington. Damages amounted to more than $1,000. An officer attempted to speak with the suspect, but he was not compliant. Charges will be filed on Steven Eric McClain, 50, of Brighton, for criminal mischief.
A caller Saturday evening at West Adams Street in Washington reported that a male subject wouldn't leave her apartment. An officer responded. The male subject left the apartment.
A caller Saturday night at Coppock Road in Washington reported that a subject was drinking and driving, and left going northbound. The subject dragged the caller alongside the vehicle. She had a scrape but did not need an ambulance. The vehicle was a dark-colored, newer Chevrolet pickup. An officer responded and spoke to the caller. The officer was going to consult with the county attorney on Sunday about charges.
