Mediacom cable television subscribers in Fairfield will see their bills jump by $1 to $3 starting in December.
Mediacom spokeswoman Phyllis Peters says the increase is due to the higher prices the company must pay to obtain its channels.
Peters says Mediacom, the nation?s eighth-largest cable company, will pay ?tens of millions of dollars? more for programming in 2011 than it did this year.
In a letter notifying city officials of the increase, Mediacom announces its rates for broadcast basic cable will increase from $25.95 to $27.95; for expanded basic cable from $37 to $38; and for total family cable from $62.95 to $65.95.
As part of the company?s franchise agreement with Fairfield, Mediacom is obligated to provide notification of the rate increase; however, city officials have no authority in the matter.
