Why are you running for the City Council?
I served on the Mount Pleasant City Council from 2002 to 2010, and then again from 2018 to 2026. I have enjoyed serving Mt. Pleasant. I feel I have contributed to make the city better.
Why do you consider yourself a good member of the Council?
I have participated and volunteered for many years on different organizations: Noon Rotary, Mount Pleasant Chamber, Main Street, Old Threshers, 24-Hour Relay Challenge, 911 Explorer Post, served on three different Ragbrai events (Communications Director, Safety Director) and served in the Information tent. Served as the city representative on the E911 Board and as chairman of Henry County Management Commission.
What are your main accomplishments in life?
23 years on the Mount Pleasant Police Department achieving the rank of sergeant of all three shifts. The 2017 and 2022 Volunteer Award by the Mount Pleasant Chamber and also the 2023 Citizen of the Year. I worked as a Juvenile Tracker and Monitoring Officer for the Juvenile Court System for 17 years dealing with the youth and their issues. I have served as an Election Official at the Polling Sites for over 20 years.
What about the City of Mount Pleasant needs the most improvement, and how could you, in your position, help with this?
The city needs to continue with its aggressive approach in repairing/replacing streets and the infrastructure of the city along with making more bike and walking trails. As a member of the Finance Committee, I will continue to help fund these important issues. Cleaning up and demolishing dilapidated properties and enforcing ordinances. As chairman of the Ordinance Committee that is a priority. Continue to improve the city parks and add additional recreational opportunities.
