Why are you running for the School Board?
I am running for school board because I want to bring a new viewpoint to board because looking at things differently is the best way to collaborate and find the best possible solution. I want to be involved with setting the district up for providing high quality education long term to Mt Pleasant students.
Why do you think you would be a good member of the Board?
I think I would be a good member of the board because I am not afraid to share my opinion, even if it is unpopular. I will listen to the needs of the community and be a voice for them at the board meetings. I have experience with needing to set priorities due to limited funding available. This is very applicable for the school board and I will look for what makes the most impact for the students of the district.
What are your main accomplishments in life?
From a personal perspective, my greatest accomplishment is being married to my wife for over 17 years and raising three children with her that are members of the Mt Pleasant Community School district. From a professional standpoint, it would be working at Continental for the last 13 years and continuing to take on different roles to help the plant face new challenges so that we can be successful as a team.
What about the District needs the most improvement, and how could you, in your position, help with this?
I feel that the focus on students has weakened within the district. The focus needs to be shared between the short term and the long term vision of the district, and recently the focus has been heavily skewed toward a long term vision that the community has voiced their opinions against. As a school board member, I would make sure that each decision and investment is focused on what brings the most value to the students of the district.
