Why are you running for the School Board?
I am running for School Board so that my kids- as well as all of the other kids in the MPCSD - are provided with the opportunities they deserve, so that they can thrive into their futures.
Why do you think you would be a good member of the Board?
I think I would be a good member of the School Board because I am a parent of children in the district, I am an active member of the Mt. Pleasant Community, a local business owner, and I graduated from MPCSD. I am able to bring those experiences- along with the knowledge and historical contexts I have gained in the last 6 years of being on the board- to the table. I also feel that I make myself available to community members, listen to their concerns, and have open conversations regarding my positions on various issues.
What are your main accomplishments in life?
My main accomplishments in life thus far include staying-at-home while my children were young, and managing our household. Now that my kids are in school, I manage a work-home life balance working as a an office manager at the dental office during the day, and coordinating schedules with extracurricular activities in the evenings! Amongst those things, I stay busy, volunteering with School Board, our local Pheasants Forever chapter, and our church.
What about the District needs the most improvement, and how could you, in your position, help with this?
I feel we need to improve: physical spaces, our current “scores” in the Iowa School Performance review categories, and community relations. I would hope to assist in these improvements by continuing to serve on the master planning and finance committees, regularly attending policy meetings, continue to support the expressed needs of our teachers, as well as, listen to our community members concerns while being transparent on the reasoning for decisions being made for the district as a whole.
