Memorial Day services Monday in Fairfield
Fairfield will honor those who died while serving in the military during Memorial Day services Monday.
The Iowa Brass Command of the 34th Army Band will form at the Ron Prill Bandstand in Central Park at 9:30 a.m., and will perform at about 9:50 a.m.
Jim Kennedy, commander of Dimmitt-Vorhies Post 2271, will welcome attendees to the service. Soloist Jan Hunerdosse will sing ?God Bless America,? accompanied by ...

Fairfield will honor those who died while serving in the military during Memorial Day services Monday.
The Iowa Brass Command of the 34th Army Band will form at the Ron Prill Bandstand in Central Park at 9:30 a.m., and will perform at about 9:50 a.m.
Jim Kennedy, commander of Dimmitt-Vorhies Post 2271, will welcome attendees to the service. Soloist Jan Hunerdosse will sing ?God Bless America,? accompanied by the 34th Army Band, directed by Kent Wesselink.
The Rev. Rick Zickefoose of Brighton United Church will give the invocation. Chance Nicely, a senior at Fairfield High School and a recipient of this year?s Outstanding Speech Award, will read Logan?s General Orders. Loreena Hucke, a junior at Fairfield High School and an IHSSA All-State speaker in the literary program, will deliver Abraham Lincoln?s Gettysburg Address.
Retired Staff Sgt. Amanda Northup of the VFW in Fairfield will be the guest speaker. After Northup?s Memorial Day address, Hunerdosse will sing the national anthem accompanied by the 34th Army Band. Zickefoose will give the benediction.
At the conclusion of the service in Central Park, the public is invited to walk to the Jefferson County Veterans Monument for another ceremony. The procession to the monument will form on the west side of the square. Any patriotic organizations including the Boy and Girl Scouts are welcome to join. All citizens are welcome to join the parade and the services that follow. The Area 1015 transportation bus will transport handicapped and senior citizens to and from the monument services.
Services at the monument will begin with the Iowa Brass Command playing ?Nearer My God to Thee.? Zickefoose will give the invocation, after which wreaths will be laid at the veterans monument.
The Iowa Brass Command will play the hymn ?Rock of Ages,? followed by taps.
In the event of inclement weather, the services will be held at the Fairfield National Guard Armory.
