Memorial service to honor two local law enforcement officers
In recognition of National Police Memorial Week, the Fairfield Police Department, Jefferson County Sheriff?s Office and Jefferson County Police Reserves will join law enforcement agencies throughout Iowa and the United States to pay tribute to the men and women killed in the line of duty protecting public safety and security.

In recognition of National Police Memorial Week, the Fairfield Police Department, Jefferson County Sheriff?s Office and Jefferson County Police Reserves will join law enforcement agencies throughout Iowa and the United States to pay tribute to the men and women killed in the line of duty protecting public safety and security.
Locally, a wreath laying ceremony will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Evergreen Cemetery honoring Billy Sutherland, who died in the line of duty July 27, 1970, while serving as a reserve officer of the Jefferson County Police Posse.
A memorial service is planned at 10 a.m. Friday at the Jefferson County Law Enforcement Center. The service will honor Sutherland and Batavia City Marshal William Ross Hanshaw, who died in the line of duty Aug. 1, 1917.
The public is invited to the memorial service Friday.
