Meningitis outbreak toll: 424 cases, 31 deaths
An outbreak of fungal meningitis has been linked to steroid shots for back pain made by a specialty pharmacy in Massachusetts. The medication was recalled in late September.

Illnesses: 424, including 10 joint infections. Deaths: 31.
