Men?s season ends with loss to St. Ambrose

DAVENPORT ? The Iowa Wesleyan College men?s basketball team ended its season with an 86-79 loss to St. Ambrose University in the MCC Tournament on Wednesday night.
Eighth-seeded IWC was unable to topple the No. 1 seeded Fighting Bees and ended its season with an overall record of 12-14. St. Ambrose improves to 23-8 overall and will continue its run in the tournament against fifth-seeded Waldorf College on Friday night in a semifinal game.
IWC struggled in the first half, going down as many as 13 points as St. Ambrose knocked down eight 3-pointers while the Tigers missed all six of their shots from behind the arc. They were able to close the gap to five points on a jumper by Bruce Brooks to go into halftime down 38-33. Davis Warner, Kyle Warner and Donnie Osborne each led the Tigers with seven points in the first half.
The Tigers again came within five points on a 3-pointer by Davis Warner with 1:52 left in the game, but the Bees went on to hit 11 of their last 13 attempts from the free throw line to help defeat the Tigers.
Brooks and Davis Warner led the Tigers with 15 points each. Osborne added 14 points off the bench. Brooks and Kyle Warner both led the Tigers with six rebounds and Jon Umoren paced the team with four assists.
In the other MCC Tournament games, Waldorf upset fourth-seeded Clarke; sixth-seeded Mt. Mercy upset No. 3 seed and defending tournament champion Ashford University, and No. 7 seed Grand View won at No. 2 William Penn University. Mt. Mercy now will host Grand View in the other semifinal game Friday night.
