Mid-Prairie competes at Large Group Speech Contest

The Mid-Prairie High School Large Group Speech Team competed Saturday, Jan. 15 at the Regina High School RVC Large Group Speech Contest.
Eight of Mid-Prairie’s 10 groups earned Division 1 ratings, with the other two groups earning Division 2 ratings.
“Conference contests are a great opportunity to have the different events receive preliminary critique from IHSSA judges before they compete for advancement,” said Mid-Prairie Speech and Drama Coach Christine Meader. Lisa Helmuth is the team’s assistant coach.
Those groups earning Division 1 ratings were:
One Act Play - And The Giants Fell - Jacob Carrillo, Liv Caskey, Isabel Forbes, Avery Frede, Harlie Gehling, Isadora Goode, Sam Harris, Sam Stacey.
Readers Theatre - Small World - Ethan Bontrager, Chris Burnham, Avery Frede, Harlie Gehling, River Gehling, Sam Harris.
Ensemble Acting - Doctors Orders - Kenadi Fay, River Gehling, Avery Slaubaugh.
Ensemble Acting - Hold For Three - Ethan Bontrager, Alex Burnham, Logan McClellen.
Ensemble Acting - Please Have a Seat and Someone Will Be With You Shortly - Haydon Bailey, Grace Puttmann.
Musical Theatre - Something Rotten - Logan McClellen, Terra Richardson, Avery Slaubaugh.
Musical Theatre - I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change - Haydon Bailey, Liv Caskey, Kenadi Fay, Jack Greiner.
Group Improvisation - The Bridget Rockefeller Fan Club - Grace Puttmann, Terra Richardson.

Mid-Prairie will compete Saturday, Jan. 22 at the Iowa High School Speech Association District Large Group Speech Contest at Montezuma High School. Events earning a Division 1 rating at District Contest will advance to State Contest, on Feb. 5 at Kennedy High School. Outstanding performances at State contest can earn the chance to be nominated to All-State.
