On Wednesday, members spent time traveling to Indianapolis and at the FFA Career Expo and Shopping area.
On Thursday morning, members attended the Opening Session which highlighted the keynote speaker, Kevin Wanzer. Mr. Wanzer is a comedian who challenged the FFA members to be leaders and to accept others. Members spent time visiting the Career Show and Expo, where they received information from colleges, ag businesses and other organizations associated with agriculture. Members then attended the 3rd General Session where the National FFA Central Region Vice President from Iowa, Kanyon Huntington, gave his retiring address.
On Friday, Mid-Prairie FFA members toured the Agua Blanca Shrimp Farm in Indianapolis, IN. The facility grows fresh shrimp in their unique shrimpbox containers. It was a great tour showing how sustainable shrimp farming can take place in urban areas. Members also toured the Beasley Orchard in Danville, IN. Members were able to experience the agritourism facility first hand by taking a hayrack ride through the apple orchard, walking through the corn maze, shooting apple cannons and visiting the on-site store. The presentation by the owner shed light on the positives and negatives of owning agritourism facilities.
On Saturday, three members of the Mid-Prairie FFA chapter received the American FFA Degree. This is the highest degree members can receive in the FFA Organization. Receiving the degree included: Bridget Fisher, Zane Fisher and Carmen Sieren. Following the degree ceremony, the Mid-Prairie FFA members returned home.
