CRAWFORDSVILLE — A Washington woman was accused of operating a vehicle while intoxicated, after police say she drove it off the road, through a field, and into a pond around 1:20 a.m. Tuesday, June 11.
According to a Washington County deputy’s preliminary accident report, the car was “fully submerged” in the water, when a passerby pulled its driver out with only “minor injuries.” The car was totaled from the accident, and later towed, the report said.
The accident happened near the intersection of Highway 218 Northbound and 320th Street. The intersection is near Boxcar Treasures and W2 Fuel in Crawfordsville.
The report said driver Brenna Burlingame was cleared by medical responders, and then arrested, charged with a first offense of operating while intoxicated, and failure to maintain control of a vehicle. In court records, Deputy Ethan Hansen, who filed the accident report, said he had been dispatched to the area for a driving complaint shortly before the crash.
A Washington County Ambulance, Crawfordsville Fire & EMS, and Rescue Crew 92A responded to the 911 call, according to Call For Service and dispatch records released by the county Tuesday morning. The CFS log said other charges were pending against Burlingame, pending lab results from the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation.
