FAIRFIELD – Maharishi International University’s outdoor pool opened for the summer on June 10.
The outdoor pool, known officially as the Cowhig Family Aquatic Center, is open to the public and available from 2-8 p.m. every day. Swimming lessons are held from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
MIU held an inauguration ceremony for its pool on Oct. 7, 2023 to commemorate about $1 million in renovations that included a new concrete deck, a new wall around the pool below the deck, replastering of the inner pool walls, renovation of the bathhouse inside and out, and much more. The pool had been closed since the fall of 2019.
According to a news release from MIU’s Dr. Craig Pearson, Davis Eidahl will return for his 30th year of teaching swimming lessons. Tom Brooks will serve as the certified pool operator, and Jan Harvey will be in charge of training lifeguards.
The renovations at the pool were made possible thanks to MIU trustee emeritus Dr. Vincent Argiro, who was also the lead donor for the university’s Argiro Student Center. Argiro chose to name the pool the Cowhig Family Aquatic Center in honor of the Cowhig family of British Columbia, Canada, a family that has contributed much to MIU.
