MM Composite, Inc., Mt. Pleasant?s newest manufacturing plant, hopes to begin production in early November, Henry County Supervisor Gary See said during the supervisors? meeting Thursday. See was reporting on the latest board meeting of the Mt. Pleasant Area Development Corporation.
The composite product firm, headquartered in Denmark, is moving its operation in the United States from Ft. Madison to Mt. Pleasant. MM purchased the second Mt. Pleasant spec building last summer. See said the sale of the building is nearly done. ?It just took time to work out the legal aspects of the sale,? See explained.
MM, which was founded in 2011, initially specialized in the surface treatments of fiberglass. However, in the years following, the industry has expanded to supply products, primarily blades, for the wind turbine industry.
According to MM?s website, the company offers production with all types of resin ? epoxy, polyester, vinylester, penol, etc. The company also utilizes glass and carbon fiber in its products, and plug and molding production.
See also told the board that another laborshed study was planned for the region. The last one was compiled in 2012. The supervisor reported economic development officials said the study is a very valuable tool for employers and manufacturers.
In final tidbits, See said the county?s unemployment was listed at 3.8 percent in September. He also said the next meeting for Stronger Economies Together (SET), a cooperative effort by Henry, Washington and Jefferson counties to spur economic development in the three-county region, will be Nov. 13 at noon in Washington. A location has not been determined for the meeting, which is open to the public.
The supervisors will meet again in regular session on Tuesday, Nov. 3, at 9 a.m. in the Henry County Courthouse.
