At Wapello Monday, the senior left plenty of room to spare and will be headed to the meet he missed out on last year. Moews turned in a time of 17:31, which placed him eighth.
?Ben ran a smart race. He really settled in and finished strong,? said head coach John Simmons. ?It was a tough district to qualify in, but he worked hard after finishing 11th last year and gets a trip to state.?
Moews will run the Class 1A meet Saturday at 2:30 p.m.
The Warriors? No. 2 runner Zach Pilcher fell just short at the end finishing 14th (18:13).
?Zach really ran his heart out but just ran out of gas coming to the finish line,? Simmons said.
On the girls? side, senior Whitney Atwood led Van Buren in 30th-place with a time of 19:19.
