The Fairfield Planning and Zoning Commission tabled action on the Golden Domes Subdivision during a meeting Monday evening.
Developers were seeking approval of the subdivision?s preliminary plat. However, because the plat did not indicate adequate parking nor adequate public access to and from the subdivision, the commission voted to table action until that information is included.
The proposed subdivision calls for the development of three lots along Zimmerman Boulevard near the swimming pool and ladies dome on the Maharishi University of Management campus.
University officials have been working with Frye Builders of Muscatine, the company that will build and own the apartment buildings.
Current plans are to build a three-story women?s apartment building on the eastern lot. The building will consist of 23 units ? 441 square feet, 557 square feet and 536 square feet in size ? intended for purchase, lease and short-term rental. The apartment complex will be built according to the U.S. Green Building Council?s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design standards for silver certification.
Mike Frye of Frye Builders estimated construction will cost $4.5 million to $5 million and the building will generate $45,000 per year in tax revenue for the city.
In the future, Frye said a similar complex could be built on the western lot, while the central lot is used for parking.
