WASHINGTON - Girls from Washington County competed on Sunday for the Washington County Fair queen crown.
Showing off their best casual wear, Sunday wear and formal wear the seven participants showed poise and professionalism.
A variety of questions were answered by the girls to the judges and limited audience. The first question asked by the judges was pulled from the participants application and the second was pulled by the participants from a basket.
Even though there was a smaller audience due to COVID-19 safety precautions, there were still claps and reactions to the girls and their question answers.
When asked what the best invention is in her opinion, Oliva Marek said indoor plumbing, eliciting chuckles and nods of agreement from the audience.
After the scores were tallied, Taylor Brinning was crowned the 2020 fair queen. In the fall, Brinning will be a senior at Washington High School. She is involved in 4-H. FFA, Fellowship of Christian Athlete, volleyball and more.
Phelan Hostetler was named first runner-up; Olivia Marek was second runner-up; and Miss Congeniality was Brynn Beenblossom.
Thus far, the court has been spending the week at the fairgrounds handing out awards during the livestock shows.
