Mount Pleasant pedestrian killed while lying on road

MOUNT PLEASANT ? A Mount Pleasant man, Michael Mills, 42, has been identified as the victim in a fatal pedestrian/vehicle accident Monday night 1 mile south of Mount Pleasant on Oakland Mills road.

According to the Iowa State Patrol, Mills was lying partially on the traveled portion of the roadway when he was struck by a northbound 1998 Ford F-150 pickup, driven by Caleb Davis, 17, of Mount Pleasant.

Davis told officers that he attempted to avoid Mills but struck him in the northbound lane. The accident occurred at approximately 11:30 p.m. A sergeant with the Mount Pleasant Iowa State Patrol office said he ?had no idea? why Mills was lying in the roadway and won?t know pending the results of an autopsy.

Mills was transported by ambulance to the Henry County Health Center. No citations have been issued in the accident, which remains under investigation.
