The Mt. Pleasant girls? soccer team played it's second match in three days yesterday, defeating Ottumwa, 3-1, at East Lake Park.
Ottumwa scored first with a goal in the 25th minute, but that was the extent of the offense in the first half of play. The score remained 1-0 through the end of the first half.
In the second half, however, Mt. Pleasant turned up the intensity.
?The girls came out strong in the second half and were more aggressive in going to the ball,? Panther Coach Ed Chabal said.
As a result, Mt. Pleasant forward Holly Long scored less than one minute into the half, off of an assist from midfielder Hannah LeBlanc.
Long went on to score the Panthers? other two goals as well, off assists from defensive players Linzie Hood and Mila Argueta.
Defensively, the Panthers? keeper, Lauren Hillman, allowed only one goal while recording five saves.
Mt. Pleasant had a few newcomers on the field as well who aided the team efforts.
?Sarah Van Dorin played well in her first varsity start as did Amber Hainline and Madison Pullis in the midfield,? Chabal said.
The Panthers travel to Fairfield on Monday for their first conference match, which begins at 5:30 p.m.
