The City of Mt. Pleasant received an award of excellence from the Iowa Concrete Paving Association for the South Main Street improvement project completed in the summer of 2018.
The city was nominated by Jones Contracting, who was the general contractor for the project. Mt. Pleasant beat out larger communities like Des Moines and Ames for the award, it was revealed during a city council meeting on Wednesday, Feb. 13.
'It's always nice to have good recognition,” Mayor Steve Brimhall said.
The Mapleleaf parking lot paving project was also nominated for an award but was not chosen, Brimhall said.
The Mt. Pleasant City Council approved the promotion of Ryan Pilling from criminal investigator to lieutenant for the Mt. Pleasant Police Department effective Feb. 23.
Pilling will take the place of current Ltn. Lyle Murray, who is being promoted to police chief when Chief Ron Archer retires later this month.
Archer said that Pilling applied for the position, and he thought he would make a good lieutenant.
A public hearing will be held Wednesday, March 6, at 5 p.m. before the adoption of the fiscal year 2020's city budget. Fiscal year 2020 is July 1, 2019, to June 30, 2020.
The next Mt. Pleasant City Council meeting is Wednesday, Feb. 27, at 5:30 p.m. at City Hall.
