MP school bus, vehicle collide at intersection

A minor traffic accident Sept. 26 involving a Mt. Pleasant Area Community School District bus and a 2008 Chevrolet fortunately resulted in no injuries to either driver or the children on the school bus.

According to the Henry County Sheriff?s Office, the accident happened at the intersection of 283rd Street and U.S. Highway 218. The accident report said that a Mt. Pleasant school bus, driven by Mary Smith, 68, of Mt. Pleasant was attempting to cross the southbound lanes of Highway 218 when the bus pulled into the path of a southbound 2008 Chevrolet, driven by Anne Menke, 53, of Donnellson.

The Menke vehicle struck the back bumper of the school bus, which caused minor damage to the bus and approximately $5,000 to the Menke vehicle.

The school bus was carrying 11 children at the time and their parents were notified of the accident. No injuries were reported. Smith was issued a citation for failure to yield upon entering a through highway.
