MP seventh, eighth grade football teams split with Demons
The Mt. Pleasant seventh and eighth grade football teams each split a pair of games with Washington this week, highlighted by the seventh grade maroon team?s road win over the previously unbeaten and unscored upon Demons.

The Mt. Pleasant seventh and eighth grade football teams each split a pair of games with Washington this week, highlighted by the seventh grade maroon team?s road win over the previously unbeaten and unscored upon Demons.
The maroon team (4-0) dealt Washington its first loss by a score of 20-14.
Jordan Magnani scored the first points against the Demons this season with a seven-yard run into the end zone in the first quarter of the game, and Brady Sartorius made it 8-0 in Mt. Pleasant?s favor with a run for the two-point conversion.
The Panthers added their final 12 points in the third quarter with a 65-yard touchdown run by Magnani and a 30-yard touchdown pass from Sartorius to Magnani.
Washington scored once in the third quarter and once in the fourth but couldn?t overcome the Mt. Pleasant lead.
Magnani finished with three catches for 42 receiving yards and eight carries for 113 rushing yards. Isaac Kuster had four catches for 24 yards and eight carries for 64 rushing yards. Paul Rundquist had a five-yard catch.
Sartorius was eight-for-12 passing for 71 yards.
Tanner Ruby had an interception and Chad West recovered a fumble.
In the gold game, Washington came out on top of a 28-0 decision. Keegan Rich had four carries for 18 yards. Aaron Scarff and Dalton Smith had six rushing yards each; Briton Ensminger and Ryan Walljasper ran for five yards each; and Cole Burns, Wyatt Carlston and James Lobdell had three yards on the ground apiece.
Rich was two-for-six passing for 12 yards. Carlston and Kyle Medina had one catch each.
Jermaine Miles had two interceptiosn for Mt. Pleasant, while Luke Nyhuis and Kyle Vaughn each recovered a fumble.
The seventh graders will play next at Ottumwa on Monday, starting at 4:30 p.m.
In the eighth graders? games against Washington, the Panthers and the Demons took turns on each side of a shutout. Mt. Pleasant won the ?A? game, 39-0, and Washington took the ?B? game by a score of 43-0.
Patrick Canby led the A team with 159 yards for three touchdowns, a two-point conversion and a PAT kick.
DShundric Foster had 63 yards rushing and two touchdowns. Zach Ebeling rushed for eight yards.
Ebeling also led the defense with 12 tackles, while Julian Schwartz, Tre Cosgrove and Canby added nine tackles each. Thad Williams had seven tackles.
Brock Wilson returned a fumble for a touchdown. Jonathon Rose and Foster each recovered a fumble as well, and Foster had an interception.
In the B game, Brandon Hart had 13 yards rushing and six tackles. Brandon Hguyen also had six tackles.
The eighth graders will host Ottumwa on Monday, Oct. 8, at 4:30 p.m.
