MT. PLEASANT - Mt. Pleasant Community High School's prom has been canceled.
In a news release sent out Tuesday afternoon, MPCHS principal Todd Liechty explained the decision to cancel Prom 2020 followed discussions with Henry County Public Health about 'procedures and COVID-19 mitigation strategies” for summer events. At the district's April school board meeting, prom had originally been pushed to July 11.
'While we understand this news will be disappointing for many of our students, we simply could not find a solution that allowed our students to experience prom while maintaining current mitigation guidelines and adhering to the Governor's proclamation. We came to this decision after reviewing all options and out of an abundance of caution for the health and safety of our students and families,” Liechty wrote.
The high school will be holding their in-person graduation ceremony on June 27 at Mapleleaf Stadium. The school is also moving forward with their baseball and softball seasons after loosening restrictions from the governor allowed sports activities to resume.
'Thank you for your patience as we work through these issues and continue a plan to return to learn this fall,” Liechty added.
