MPHS class of 1942 holds 69th reunion

Members of the Mt. Pleasant High School class of 1942 met for their 69th reunion on June 10 and 11.

The class last met in June 2009. Eighty-one were in the graduating class. Fifty-seven members are deceased.

Eleven members were present for the "Dutch treat" dinner held at the Pizza Ranch in Mt. Pleasant on Friday, June 10. Fourteen attended the dinner at Jerry's on Saturday, June 11.

Those attending one or both events were Rachel Thacher Worrell, Santa Monica, Calif.; Wilma Barton Roberts and Sam from Springville, Utah; Robert Chaney, Rock Island, Ill.; Ann Woodward Thompson, Ft. Madison; Howard and Martha Ferrell, Davenport; and Ida Belle Heil Morris, Veda Egli Bates, Wendell and Margaret Smith, Gerald and Arlene Beavers and Selma King Simmons, all of Mt. Pleasant.

A meeting was held on Saturday evening with Gerald Beavers conducting business. Messages from members unable to attend were read by Wilma Roberts.

Pictures of the graduating class from the "Target" were reproduced and used as name tags.

Wilma Roberts and Gerald Beavers were chairmen for the reunion. They will be joined by Robert Chaney to chair the next event. This optimistic group voted to meet again in 2013 for the 71st reunion.
