Learning: 100 percent in-person, remote learning option available
Face Coverings: Tentatively required
The Mt. Pleasant Community School District will vote and finalize its return-to-learn plan on Monday evening. The district intends to invite students back on Aug. 24 for a face-to-face learning model and has a remote learning option available, delivered by teachers in the district.
The district has indicated the remote learning option is on a semester basis and a family can choose to opt back into face-to-face learning.
The district will remain in face-to-face instruction when there is 'none to moderate (0 percent - 14 percent positivity in county) community spread.”
The tentative plan has outlined multiple mitigation tactics including teaching proper hand-washing and cough and sneeze etiquette. The plan states masks are required of all staff and students when 6-foot physical distancing cannot be maintained. Face coverings or shields will be required on buses.
The district will provide one mask for every student if needed. The plan notes there will be instances when face coverings and shields 'will need to be removed to provide appropriate educational programming.”
In discussions about the model, Superintendent John Henriksen noted the district is encouraging teachers to use outdoor space as much as possible where students could more easily spread out.
To help further mitigate spread, all schools in the district will establish three lunch shifts. Elementary school playgrounds will be segmented to promote students staying in cohort groups. Lockers at the middle school will remain unassigned, and high school students will have access to lockers only when entering and leaving the building.
Should the district enter a hybrid learning model, the district will continue daily face-to-face instruction with students grades K-6 with 7-12 students attending in-person on a rotational basis and doing online schooling when not at school buildings. K-5 grade levels will be spread across buildings in the district.
