MT. PLEASANT - While the Mt. Pleasant Community School District is forging ahead with homecoming week, this year's festivities will look different from those of years past.
The district released details and plans for the week on Wednesday.
The biggest change for the district is the altered sports schedule. The high school's football season was moved forward two weeks due to a condensed season, according to a release from the district. The school's volleyball season, however, has remained unchanged.
There are two home volleyball games during the week scheduling traditional homecoming activities like boom night, when homecoming royalty is announced; the powderpuff football, when junior and senior girls play flag football; and powderpuff volleyball, when the senior and junior boys face each other in volleyball.
The district had to decide on new home football games after the massive football schedule changes. According to the news release, the district had to choose between the first week of school and the week of Oct. 9. In light of the pandemic, the marching band procession and parade had been modified to take into account safety rules and regulations.
During the annual parade, there will not be class floats. The band color guard will be performing during the parade, and a recording of the marching band will be played on speakers.
Sports teams and homecoming royalty will be in vehicles with masks on in the parade. Students can ask to be in the parade as long as they wear masks.
