Mt. Pleasant asks people to move cars off streets

With snow and ice in the weather forecast, Mt. Pleasant city officials are asking people to park their cars off the streets.
'We do not have a snow emergency ordinance,” City Administrator Brent Schleisman said Monday. 'We're just asking people on the honor system to remove their cars from the streets on Tuesday and Wednesday so our trucks can do what they need to do.”
He added that, in addition to it making streets easier to be plowed, it is also a safety issue.
'It's just safer for our drivers,” Schleisman said.
He noted that Mt. Pleasant tends to not get as much snow as other parts of the state.
'We don't get a lot of those days,” he said. 'We might have to plow six times a winter.”
While the city does not have a snow emergency ordinance, they do have an ordinance about clearing snow from sidewalks.
'People have to get their sidewalks cleared within 24 hours or a reasonable amount of time,” Schleisman said. 'If they don't, we can do that, and people can pay us or we can add it on to their taxes.”
