The Mt. Pleasant Childcare Center introduced a new director last Monday.
Kaysee Phelps, who was formerly the Assistant Director, has taken over the position.
Although she has a new title, nothing has changed for Phelps as it’s all for the kids.
One of the most rewarding aspects of the job for Phelps is seeing the kids develop over time.
“When it comes to child development, when you have seen that child meet a milestone that accomplishment is so big,” Phelps said. “The staff feels proud that they were part of that.
The Mt. Pleasant Childcare Center has not only been an important addition to the town of Mt. Pleasant, but also Henry County.
Phelps said, that many people have said thank you for bringing a child care center to the area. The center has already eliminated a lot of problems in the area, as it gives parents a comfortable, reliable and safe place to bring their children.
The center currently accepts children from six weeks of age to age five.
It has constantly been growing. As of right now, the center can hold up to 50 kids at a time. Their currently in the process of getting their full licensure from DHS, the number will increase.
Kids can be either full time, part time, or drop-ins.
While Phelps is embracing the new role, there are some new challenges that come a long with it.
“The biggest change has been trying to find a balance between the work I was currently doing, juggling the classroom and making sure they stay in ratio,” Phelps said. “Then just doing the director role as in getting things in order like working in the office and helping out where needed.“
Amy McLaughlin, the former director, was introduced with a professional opportunity that she could not turn down.
McLaughlin believes the center is in great hands.
“I believe the center is in very capable hands,” McLaughlin said. Kaysee’s passion for kids, child care and early childhood is amazing and shes a great asset.“
Although she is no longer the director, McLaughlin is very proud of the work that was done under her watch.
“I am incredible proud of what's happened at the Childcare Center since Feb. of 2020,” McLaughlin said. “The community support and partnership, contractors and subcontractors working together, it was an unbelievable experience.”
