Mt. Pleasant Christian School to return in-person Sept. 9

MT. PLEASANT - Mt. Pleasant Christian School students will be heading back to school for in-person instruction starting Sept. 9.

Tina Hill, administrator for the private school, noted their return-to-learn plan 'will look a little different from the public school” due to their facilities and number of students. As of Wednesday, the school had 65 students registered to attend the fall semester.

To keep students and faculty safe and help mitigate the spread of the virus, the school will be practicing social distancing and doing temperature checks each day before students enter the building. Office manager Melissa Peiffer said because class sizes are smaller, social distancing in classrooms will not be an issue. Masks will not be required for students.

'We will definitely be increasing the frequency of wiping down all surfaces that the students and staff will come in contact with. We will have a schedule for additional cleaning to ensure the safety of everyone,” Hill noted.

Other changes include the shutting down of water fountains and time set aside for hand washing. Students will use hand sanitizer every time they enter or exit a classroom. The school purchased additional lunch tables to further help maintain social distancing during breaks and will be restricting use of lockers between classes.

Hill noted they will be 'conducting school as normal as possible to help the students be able to focus and learn.” Like other schools, Mt. Pleasant Christian School was shut down in March in response to the coronavirus pandemic and entered a completely remote learning model for the remainder of its spring semester.

Peiffer said there will be options for students who may potentially have to be gone from school.

'The plan right now is to stay in-person learning and adjust if we need to,” Peiffer said. 'We're excited to get back to school.”
