MT. PLEASANT - Mt. Pleasant's city council approved an Infectious Disease Action Plan in response to the evolving coronavirus outbreak.
At their bimonthly meeting on Wednesday evening, the council passed the plan, whose goal is 'to protect City employees and citizens,” and 'establish a consistent approach to an infectious disease.”
The plan falls in line with federal regulations that provides additional sick leave for employees and expansions of the emergency Family and Medical Leave Act to care for children during a public health emergency.
The plan also states work related travel 'must be approved by the City Administrator,” and suspends group meetings through the end of March, the duration the policy is expected to be in place.
The city council also approved an agreement between the city and the county, which will allow the Henry County Treasurer to collecting unpaid parking and fines tickets that are due to the City of Mt. Pleasant.
The resolution allows the city to 'turn over unpaid tickets and finds to the Treasurers Office which they can deny registering vehicles until the tickets and fines are paid in full.”
During the meeting, the city council accepted a bid for the Monroe and Adams St. project with Jones Contracting for $461,777 and passed two ordinances defining regulations for electrical vehicle charging stations. This included fines for improper use or obstructing any of the four stations located in the downtown area owned by Mt. Pleasant Municipal Utilities, as well as expanding the language of their Zoning Ordinance to include any future charging stations installed by residents.
