Mt. Pleasant Community Schools discussing the future at special meeting

The Mt. Pleasant Board of Education held at Site Committee Meeting at the Mt. Pleasant Community High School on Tuesday, Nov.16. The meeting covered the District Facilities Master Plan that was recently completed by SVP Architects of Des Moines.
On the agenda was the discussion of the recent facilities assessment of the Mt. Pleasant Community School District buildings. The Master Plan assessment outlined the current state of the district’s buildings, their operational costs, student ratio, and size comparisons.
SVP Architects introduced Master Plan strategies, which included site possibilities for support services for the school district. Location possibilities for a new bus barn building, the consolidation of several support services and a central office location were also introduced.
There was discussion on the options of new elementary, middle school and grade schools in the area to accommodate the increase in student population and aging building status. High School additions, such as an auditorium and agricultural program space were also introduced.
Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief Funds, ESSER, projects were also presented. These are projects that improve indoor air quality to respond to COVID-19 impacts on students and educators throughout the school district, they were outlined and a timeline for the projects was suggested at the site meeting.
There is a special Board of Education meeting scheduled for Nov. 22 at 6 p.m. This meeting will further discuss the Master Plan and its impact. The meeting will be open to the public to attend.
