MT. PLEASANT - The Mt. Pleasant News celebrated and honored local Everyday Heroes in the community with a breakfast and award presentation. The event took place Thursday morning at the Airport Road Vineyard and Winery. Eight awards were given to individuals and couples who were nominated by the Mt. Pleasant community for their work and dedication to the town and its people.
Alongside Matt Bryant, the publisher of the Mt. Pleasant News and the Southeast Iowa Union, Adam Johnson, the general manager of Shottenkirk Mount Pleasant, helped to hand awards to recipients. Shottenkirk was the presenting sponsor at the event. Other sponsors included Allstate and Hy-Vee. As recipients were recognized, Johnson handed each a glass plaque.
Bryant said it's important to support and recognize members of the community who give their time to uplift and better Mt. Pleassant.
'We're happy to be able to recognize community volunteers that do so much … As is typical with many Everyday Heroes, they are certainly not seeking awards and accolades so their good deeds too often go underappreciated. The Mt. Pleasant News team, even if in a small way, wanted to let the winners know that the community appreciates their hard work, dedication, compassion, and passion to make their corner of the world a better place,” he said.
Those recognized at the ceremony were Ken Brown, executive director of the Fellowship Cup; Tenna Craff, a volunteer with the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) under the Fellowship Cup; Danielle Davidson, a community volunteer who has worked extensively with Mt. Pleasant's Relay for Life and Midwest Old Threshers; Jeremy Klopfenstein, a language arts teacher at the Mt. Pleasant Middle School; Maribelle Lund, a Fellowship Cup volunteer and board member; Sam and Jen Riepe, founders of the Vintage Raven Kitten Haven; Drew and Bev Schumacher, longtime volunteers of the Midwest Old Threshers Reunion; and Phyliss D. Van Sickle, a volunteer at the Quarter Maybe More Store.
