The Mt. Pleasant Fellowship Cup will celebrate 40 years of service on Saturday, Oct. 23, with a pancake breakfast from 7-10 a.m.
Executive Director Ken Brown said that the pancake breakfast is not a fundraiser but a thank you.
“It’s not a fundraiser,” he said. “It’s a thank you to the community for all the support they have given us on a dream that started 40 years ago.”
The Fellowship Cup is a community-led nonprofit organization that offers aid and support to the under served of Henry County. They provide a wide array of programs to help those that may need assistance.
These programs include a food pantry, building bridges out of poverty, which helps people with self-improvement, and summer snacks, which offers kids free lunch Monday through Friday. They offer utility and rent help to those that may need it. These are just a select few of the programs the Fellowship Cup has to offer.
The coronavirus pandemic has put a damper on The Fellowship Cups food services in the past year.
Before COVID-19, the food pantry could serve up to 130 households a day. Now the food pantry is stretching to reach even 70 households.
Despite the lower number of people served, Brown said that the pantry would continue to do what it does and serve to the best of its ability.
Brown says The Fellowship Cup represents the hard work of the community.
“I think we will continue to grow stronger as we move on because The Fellowship Cup is about community really digging, rolling up its sleeves, and doing what needs to be done to help the underserved,” he said.
