The Mt. Pleasant freshman girls? basketball team defeated Muscatine in its season opener on Thursday night, 40-20.
The Panthers led the whole way, taking a 6-4 lead by the end of the first quarter and stretching it to a 20-8 lead at halftime.
They put up another eight points in the third quarter, allowing only six, and stayed strong with a 12-point fourth quarter for the win.

Haley Booton led the Panthers in scoring with 17 points.
Megan Shumaker had six points and Carolyn Lutovsky added five points.
On the night, Mt. Pleasant went 16-for-25 from the free-throw line.
The freshman team will play again on Monday, Dec. 3, at Fairfield.
Tip off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
