The Iowa Board of Corrections has named a new warden for the Mt. Pleasant prison.
Marcy Stroud, currently the deputy warden at the Mt. Pleasant Correctional Facility, was approved by the board as warden.
Stroud has worked with the Department of Corrections since she started her career as a correctional officer in 1989. Over her career she held many positions within the department including activities specialist, counselor, treatment director, forensic hospital director and her current position of deputy warden.
Commenting on the approval of these new wardens, Department Director Beth Skinner said the following: “I am grateful for the opportunity to appoint these wonderful leaders to their new positions as wardens. The decades of service these individuals have given this state and department will serve them well in their new roles as wardens.”
In addition to Stroud, the board on Friday approved two other warden appointments:
- Shawn Howard, Newton Correctional Facility and
- Chris Tripp, Iowa State Penitentiary in Fort Madison
Howard has served as deputy warden at the Clarinda Correctional Facility since August 2019 and has 29 years of experience in corrections, the Iowa Department of Corrections said in a news release Friday.
Tripp, who has worked at the penitentiary since 1990, has served as the deputy warden there since 2017 and interim warden since April.
