The Mt. Pleasant High School Music Department is seeking funds for new marching band uniforms, along with new tuxedos and concert dresses for the chamber choir.
Currently, the goal is to raise $110,000, with all proceeds going toward the music department.
The average life span of the uniforms are somewhere between 10 and 15 years.
Mt. Pleasant Music Boosters President Stan Holtkamp said that it was time for new uniforms.
“They’ve had the uniforms for 18 years now,” Holtkamp said. “We feel that it’s time they now get new ones. They are past due.”
With anywhere from 170 to 190 members in the marching band a year, the music department hopes to purchase 225 uniforms for the band.
For the chamber choir, the goal is to buy 70 black dresses and 60 black tuxedos for both the singers and the symphonic band.
The average cost of one full marching band uniform and tuxedo or dress is around $495.
The department is currently working to reach its goal through several fundraising activities, business and individual contributions, and grants.
Their goal is to complete the fundraising campaign by December to ensure that band members will have new uniforms in time for the fall of 2022.
If people want to donate, they can send their name and payment payable to the Mt. Pleasant Music Boosters.
A GoFundMe page also has been created as another option for those that might find it easier to donate online.
