Mt. Pleasant High School to hold FAFSA session

The Mt. Pleasant High School will be hosting another FAFSA information and help session Thursday, March 11 from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the High School Media Center. The session will help students file FAFSA, a financial aid requirement for colleges.
'Filing for FAFSA is important for students because it helps them to see what kinds of scholarships and financial assistance are available to the students, especially the ones they aren't aware of,” Ashlei Venghaus said. 'Most colleges use FAFSA in their award letters, which breaks down all the scholarships, grants, and financing options students can receive from the college.”
Filing for FAFSA is open from October to July, and though Mt. Pleasant already held a help session back in the fall, they are still expecting a decent turn out for the spring session.
'With the long deadline, some students might put it on the back burner and forget about it, so this is a good reminder for them,” she said. 'We also see that with the spring, the session is a great opportunity for families who aren't aware of FAFSA or don't understand what to do due to because they didn't go to college.”
In order to attend the FAFSA session, please contact Kelli Nehring at 319-385-7700 or kelli.nehring@mtpcsd.org to schedule an appointment. Students are asked to bring their laptops, Social Security numbers, driver's license number, full name and date of birth, and federal and state income tax return and W2's if you filed an income tax return. Parents are asked to bring the same information as students, plus their date of marriage/remarriage, divorce/separation; parent's date of death; child support paid or received; current balance of cash, savings and checking account; and value of assets/investments, business income, land and real estate.
'Most of this information can be pulled from the IRS, but just in case, we ask that students and parents be prepared with this information,” Venghaus said.
