MT. PLEASANT - According to a press release by the Mt. Pleasant Area Chamber Alliance, the Mt. Pleasant Holiday Parade has been delayed 24 hours, owing to “dangerously cold” temperatures overnight. The original date of the parade, Thursday, Dec. 4, is set to see an overnight low of -1 degrees Fahrenheit, while the new date will only dip to 11.
“All of the beloved parade traditions remain exactly the same,” said Erica Martin, Membership Director for the Mount Pleasant Area Chamber of Commerce. “Same time, same lineup location, same festive magic - we simply want families, children, and participants to enjoy the evening safely.”
The parade will begin at 5:15 p.m., with contestants to begin lining up at 4:15 p.m.. The theme is, “A Storybook Christmas”, and Santa Claus, too, will be in attendance, and willing to see visitors! In the words of the City, “Expect twinkling lights, festive floats, familiar characters, and that cozy, heartwarming small-town charm.”
But, this is not the only holiday event this week - The Midwest Central Railroad’s North Pole Express will make its first run on Saturday, Dec. 6, at 10 a.m. This antique steam train takes passengers from Hillsboro Station at Old Threshers all the way to the top of the world, for a visit to Santa’s workshop. Meet the Claus family, their elves, and even the Magical Snow Princess. Tickets cost $35, and have been known to sold out- but, as of the date of this article, they remain available.
When asked whether the Midwest Central would reschedule due to weather, Matt Crull, Chief Executive Officer of the M.C.R.R., said it was “unlikely”.
