On December 6, 2025 at approximately 11:49 hours, the Mt. Pleasant PD was dispatched to 909 E Henry St for a report that a fire had been intentionally set by the resident. The suspect was identified as Eric Shroyer of Mt Pleasant. He was detained and officers from both Mt Pleasant PD and Henry County Sheriff’s Office began to evacuate all the residents as Shroyer’s apartment was fully engulfed.
Mt. Pleasant Fire Department arrived on scene quickly and put the fire out. Nobody was injured and Henry County Emergency Management was notified to help with any displaced residents. Henry County Health Center ambulances also provided assistance on scene.
The apartment suffered substantial damage. Shroyer was arrested and charged with Arson 1st, a Class B Felony and transported to the Henry County Jail.
Anyone who sees suspicious activity is encouraged to contact the Mt Pleasant PD at 319 385-1450.
A criminal charge is merely an accusation and a defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
Anthony Blint, Chief of Mt. Pleasant Fire Department, praised the performance of his department in its handling of the emergency.
“The Department did a great job quickly extinguishing the fire, making sure it didn’t get to any of the other apartments.”
The Mt. Pleasant Police Department could not be reached for comment.
Eric Shroyer is due to appear in court soon, represented by a Public Attorney. His trial date is not yet set.
