Mt. Pleasant man charged following bust of sophisticated 'pot' set-up

A Mt. Pleasant man has been charged with two felonies and an aggravated misdemeanor following a drug bust at 305 S. Jefferson St. May 10.

Richard Mathias has been charged with manufacturing marijuana and possession with intent to deliver less than 50 kilograms of marijuana, both class D felonies. He also was charged with child endangerment, an aggravated misdemeanor.

Mt. Pleasant Police officers executed a search warrant at the residence and discovered a marijuana grow operation. Approximately 275 marijuana plants were located during the search as well as several pounds of processed marijuana, packaging material, scales, paraphernalia, documents showing growing dates and U.S. currency.

A two-year-old child also was at the residence during the search.

The investigation is ongoing and more arrests are expected.

The investigation was partially a result of concerned citizens assisting by calling in suspicious activity. Mt. Pleasant Police continue to urge citizens to call in any suspicious activity to their local law
