Mt. Pleasant man dies after car goes off road near Fairfield

FAIRFIELD – A Mt. Pleasant man died in a single-vehicle incident west of Fairfield on Friday, Dec. 22.

A news release from the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office indicated that Leslie Irvin Decker, 70, of Mt. Pleasant, was pronounced dead at the scene when the SUV he was driving left the roadway near the intersection of Highway 34 and Hemlock Avenue, about 2 miles west of Fairfield.

First responders had received several reports of an SUV off the road, and when they responded to the scene, they found the SUV Decker was driving under the bridge in the median. Decker was the only occupant of the vehicle. The incident remains under investigation.

Responding agencies included: Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, Jefferson County Ambulance, Fairfield Fire Department, Batavia Fire Department, Fairfield Police Department, and the State Medical Examiner’s Office.
