Mt. Pleasant schools plans to purchase a lot near the middle school to be used for additional parking.
The school is buying the lot from the city, and the Mt. Pleasant City Council approved the sale in a May 12 meeting. Superintendent John Henriksen said the sale would likely be approved by the school board at a meeting on Monday.
The lot is at 404 N. Lincoln St. on the east side of the building.
The board approached the city about buying the lot to use for parking because parking is often sparse at the middle school, Henriksen said.
“There’s not enough parking at the middle school, especially when we have events, we have parent-teacher conferences, that kind of thing,” he said.
The new lot will be south of a current gravel lot the school uses for overflow parking. The school plans to pave the gravel lot as well as the new lot.
“It’s just a mess when it rains, so we want to get that paved,” Henriksen said.
