MT. PLEASANT - Members of the Mt. Pleasant City Council and the Ordinance Committee do not wish for anymore billboards within Mt. Pleasant city limits. Should they have their way, existing structures will be grandfathered in, as long as they do not require a complete rebuild.
There is some consideration towards raising the building height limit of 75 feet to something slightly taller, perhaps 125 feet. Proposed construction at the Continental Tire plant would, exceed this mark. The building itself meets the height limit, but a firewall on one side, the precursor to a potential second expansion, would exceed it ever so slightly. The Ordinance Committee saw no reason not to raise the height limit, citing the prevalence of taller structures, such as cell phone towers.
A no-parking zone was considered on Linden Drive, between Ashford Circle and S. Iris. The stated reason was the danger of crowding what is considered a relatively high-speed thoroughfare when neighboring streets such as the aforementioned Ashford Circle boast more than enough parking.
Nevertheless, like all ordinances, these will be passed to the City Council and read at three meetings before they are passed.
