Mt. Pleasant PD involved in high speed chase

Just after 11 a.m., Tuesday, the Mt. Pleasant Police Department was called to investigate a report of a white Ford pickup driving erratically on Highway 218 south.

According to a report from MPPD, it was reported that the truck was not maintaining its lane and was operating with its yellow hazard lights activated.

An officer attempted to make contact with the driver, identified as Jesse Yount of Florissant, Missouri, but the driver fled the scene southbound on Highway 218.

The report said a pursuit ensued, with speeds of 100 miles per hour. The pursuit proceeded west along East Washington Street, south onto Grand Avenue then back on to Highway 218 south.

The pickup was involved in a single vehicle collision on Highway 218 in Lee County. Yount sustained minor injuries, according to the report.

Yount has been charged with multiple traffic offenses, along with reckless driving and eluding.

MPPD was assisted by the Henry County Sheriff’s Office, Iowa State Patrol, Department of Transportation Enforcement, Lee County Sheriff’s Office, Lee County First Responders and Lee County Ambulance.
