Mt. Pleasant police arrest two after fleeing from traffic stop
Dec. 10, 2023 11:35 am
The Mt. Pleasant Police Department arrested two men who attempted to flee during a traffic stop at 11:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 6.
The two men were Allen James Hart and Nathen Cosgrove, both 27. A Mt. Pleasant police officer pulled over the vehicle they were riding in for a stop sign violation. Hart was the driver and Cosgrove was the passenger.
“While a pat down search for weapons was being conducted, Allen fled on foot, failing to stop,” a news release from the police stated.
Hart eluded police until he was apprehended on Friday, Dec. 8. Cosgrove also fled on foot from the scene but injured himself after a short distance, leading to his immediate arrest by members of the Mt. Pleasant Police Department and Henry County Sheriff’s Office.
A search of Cosgrove’s person was conducted, and it turned up marijuana and drug paraphernalia.
Cosgrove was transported to the Henry County Health Center emergency room by ambulance. Authorities later discovered that Cosgrove had an active arrest warrant out of Burlington, and there was a firearm present in the vehicle that Cosgrove had been in possession of prior to fleeing. After leaving the emergency room, Cosgrove was taken into custody.
Cosgrove was charged with Dominion/Control of Firearm by Felon, a D Felony, Interference with Official Acts, Simple Misdemeanor, Possession of Marijuana, a Serious Misdemeanor, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Simple Misdemeanor.
Hart was charged with Interference with Official Acts, Simple Misdemeanor, and received traffic citations for Failure to Provide Proof of Financial Liability and Failure to Obey Stop Sign.
A criminal charge is merely an accusation and a defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
